ABM was commissioned for this project when a number of areas of a home needed special attention; many details in the project required sound engineering solutions. Working carefully with the client, we designed the look desired for each room and then fabricated all components and panels into individual “packages” with a final order of operations for trim carpenters to install. Phase one of this home venture: a study that was to be completely on site-built. It went together like a puzzle piece and allowed the onsite carpenters to achieve detail and quality that far succeeded any standard site-built package.
Once installed, the client asked for our expertise to create an on-site finish solution that included hand detailing such as subtle distressing, misting a dye stain, applying wiping glaze, and a final wax topcoat.
From there we moved on to the project of his and her master closets, both of which incorporated some specific client-requested details. The wood species selected for his closet was a ribbon cut Sapele, which had to go through several steps of dye staining, followed by a number of coats of clear grain filler. Each step was carefully done to achieve the smooth hi-gloss lacquer finish that was desired. Drawer hardware was fabricated to be full length on all doors and drawers. Frames for the ottoman and island were fabricated and then plated in a nickel finish. One of the more detailed and involved pieces, each closet rod was a solid 1 1/8 inch, and each was notched symmetrically to individual openings, creating the needed unique spacing for shorts, suits, and pants.
Her closet was a clean and bright dressing room that artfully integrated shoe storage, drawer banks, and a mix of long and short hang areas. Telescoping Valet rods were custom plated to match the light fixture finish and installed into the partitions of each cabinet.
